About the Holderness Free Library

Founded in 1911, the Holderness Free Library has been an essential part of the fabric of the community for over 100 years. Serving generations of families in the Squam Lakes region, the library began with just 18 books and now offers a collection of over 16,000 items
for loan including books, periodicals, movies and computer access. The Holderness Free Library is a vital center for reading, digital communications and community activities.

In 2011, we were honored to receive the New Hampshire Library of the Year award from the NH Library Trustees Association. We are also proud that our historic and architecturally beautiful library building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Here to serve our community, we are grateful for the support of the Town of Holderness, which funds the yearly operations of the library. Our library has benefited from all the townspeople of Holderness, leaders of town government, generous private donors and the Friends of Holderness Free Library to fund capital improvements and special projects through the years. This community support is vital, as these projects are critical and are not paid for using taxpayer dollars.

The time has come to expand our library and invest in our future. The Library Board of Trustees is proud to announce the Campaign for the Holderness Free Library and invite you to join us on this journey.
